Today’s Prompt: Write about mental health
Mental health is a very broad topic and a complex area. I really like this area because of my work. I am a psychologist and I have worked with mental health in the public health service in Brazil for about 15 years.
According to reports from the Ministry of Health, the biggest problems in mental health, in actuality, are anxiety disorders and depression. And our experience in Psychosocial Care Center confirms this. The large number of people with severe neurotic disorders who use benzodiazepinics is huge and the number of psychotic people is much smaller than people with mood disorders.
One reason for anxiety disorders and depressive disorders affecting people today is related to the lifestyle of our society which privileges unbridled consumerism and narcissism.
With respect to anxiety and depression associated with dystonia is a question peculiar and not so simple. Any deficiency is a considerable source of mood disorder. In this respect, it is important to assert that each case must be seen in a unique way. Dystonia is a disease that don’t only affects the movement of the physical body, but can also affect other aspects of a person’s life, including psychological well-being, as stated by the DMRF.
Thus, all living with dystonia or specifically with writer’s cramp have to learn to live with the limitation, disability and emotional instability. According to medical research, there is evidence that people with dystonia may be at a greater risk for mental disorders such as anxiety and depression than the general population. In my life experience with writer’s cramp – a coincidence or not – have confirmed these findings of the researchers. So I think the most effective treatment for dystonia should also consider the emotional and psychological health of the patient.
